Mabry Mill along the Blue Ridge Parkway

Question for the new year:
Photos of the Mabry Mill are often used in calendars. It is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, in Virginia. How are we related to the mill's owner?

According to the Mabry/Maybury Family Ancestry Page, the mill was built by Edwin Boston Mabry in 1903. The land was near a land grant to Ed's great great grandfather, Isaac Mabry, in 1782.

Our Relationship to Ed and Isaac Mabry?

Isaac Mabry was the son of George Maybury and Martha Bradley, and the grandson of our ancestor Francis Maybury. Isaac was the first cousin of our ancestor, Joel Mabry.

Ed Mabry, builder of the mill was the 5th cousin of Isaac Paris "Pete" Mabry - meaning that their nearest shared ancestor was their great great great great grandfather, Francis Maybury (abt. 1650-1712).

So, we are (very) distant cousins of the builder of the mill.

Our Mabry family also lived in southern Virginia

The Mabry Mill is located about 4.5 miles northwest of the original land grant of Isaac Mabry. This land was "on the south side of Robertson's Creek of the Dan River" , which is located in Floyd County, Virginia.

In the late 1700s, our ancestor, Braxton Mabry, owned 306 acres in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, and lived there with his his family, until about 1808. This was about 75 miles away from Isaac's property - a long way if you are traveling by horse.
